Background
Jackie Henshall (BA Fine Art, Central College of Art, London) is an artist currently working with kiln glass from her studio in an old renovated woollen mill in West Wales where she also lives. Previously she established a successful business designing papercraft, cards and giclee prints which were distributed throughout the UK, Europe and Australia. Her art has been featured in several books, and her poems published individually. She has recently had her poems and drawings published together in a book entitled ‘there came upon me in the night a quiet’ The book was launched with an exhibition of her original drawings, glass sculptures and poetry readings at Rhiannon Gallery in Tregaron.
‘the creative process for this book has happened in surprising ways, sometimes the poem coming first and sometimes the drawing, conversing together along the way, changing each other and changing me too. Fascinated with the interplay of image and language I have been working with the hope that together they might say something that can’t be said by either alone about the unfathomable experience of being alive. At some point along the way I also began to include some glass sculptures, inspired by the words or drawings, and so it goes on, words into images, images into words, together perhaps more than the sum of their parts?’
